Affiliate membership in the Information Theory Society is available to Scientists and Engineers who do not want to be an 91³Ô¹ÏÍø member because of interests and/or background. Society Affiliates are non-91³Ô¹ÏÍø members who have been admitted by a Society to some of the rights and privileges of Society activities. The qualifications for Society Affiliates, limits in rights and privileges, and dues are established by the Executive Committee.
The 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Information Theory Society would like to bring the benefits of society membership to as many individual engineers and scientists as possible. These benefits include reduced conference fees, publications and other services offered by the IT Society. The "Affiliate Society Membership" program of the IT Society is intended to support science in countries where paying normal 91³Ô¹ÏÍø dues creates significant financial hardship.
The Board of Governors encourages requests for free affiliate memberships. These requests should clearly indicate the reasons for wanting to be an affiliate member and not a regular IT Society member.
To join the IT Society as an Affiliate Member, follow these steps:
- Go to the .
- Enter the data as requested until the services page.
-  At this point, uncheck the box for 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Dues and Regional Assessment.
- Click on recalculate. This changes the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Dues line to the following: 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Society Affiliation.
- At this point you need to uncheck the boxes for 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Spectrum and the Institute.
- Click on recalculate. At this point the screen for services should reflect only the charges for the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Society Affiliation Fee and the IT Society membership fee. This will allow the applicant to de-select the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø dues and recalculate the invoice. The recalculated invoice will show the affiliate fee and Information Theory as the society.
Affiliate IT Society members will not be members of the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø. This program has limited funds, and therefore the decision of the Membership and Outreach Committee in supporting any request will be final.
